Highland Energy is a growing energy company located in Butte, Montana. Highland is seeking intelligent, driven, experienced individuals to join our team and work in an entrepreneurial environment. Applicants should have at least 4 years of industry experience trading financial and physical electricity in the West and an in-depth knowledge of the energy markets. Experience trading natural gas is beneficial. A bachelor’s or advanced degree in finance, engineering, mathematics or other technical major is preferred. Candidates must be highly analytical, self-motivated, experienced in deal origination and price negotiation, and strong communicators.

The term trader is responsible for identifying and pursuing prompt-month forward trading opportunities within the WECC region that fall within Highland Energy’s risk management position guidelines. The successful applicant for term trading will work to help lead Highland’s activity in the CAISO and other western markets and will:

• Develop and maintain counterparty and broker relationships required to provide the company with maximum market coverage in the relevant term and market;             
• Execute trades of physical and financial energy products, including forwards, swaps, options, and futures with approved counterparties;
• Maintain effective communication with short term traders, management and hourly traders;
• Demonstrate experience profitably trading term (financial and physical) in the WECC region;
• Work collaboratively with other traders and staff to analyze energy market conditions and identify trading opportunities.
